AQUARIUM × ART atoa

An Immersive Night: Exploring the Sea’s Memory and Our Future

Kobe, the capital city of Hyogo Prefecture, is linked to the ancient myth of Japan’s creation. In this immersive night experience at the aquarium, you’ll explore how Japan’s history and culture have been shaped by the blessings of the sea—tracing the story from myth and past traditions through the present, and on toward the future.

Purpose

Located in Kobe, an international port city with direct access to rich marine resources, this aquarium operates under the concept of “AQUARIUM × ART.” The venue offers a diverse range of spaces and can develop tailor-made learning programs based on its scientific research outcomes.

In addition to immersive tanks that create the sensation of diving underwater and exhibits featuring waterfront species, the facility provides clear, accessible explanations of academic research on biodiversity and blue-carbon ecosystems—adding educational value to MICE programs and bespoke group experiences.

Authenticity

The MIYABI floor offers an immersive Japanese-themed setting for a 30-minute performance of traditional Jōruri puppet theatre by Awaji Ningyōza. This special program combines classical performing arts with a unique aquatic ambiance, where carp and goldfish swim around the venue.

The featured play, Ebisu-mai, is a light-hearted piece starring Ebisu, the deity of good fortune. As one of the signature works of Awaji Puppet Theatre—an art form with a history of more than 500 years—it is presented here as an exclusive traveling performance. Customized staging can be arranged for private groups to enhance corporate or incentive programs.

The second half of the evening takes place on the MARINE NOTE floor, surrounded by rows of illuminated tanks, where guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner focused on local, sustainably sourced ingredients.
Dinner is provided by “TOOTH MART,” the food court located on the first floor.

ESG Alignment

The venue showcases its blue-carbon initiatives—efforts that contribute to biodiversity conservation and CO₂ absorption—through dedicated wall art and an accompanying special website.

In addition to animal care and exhibition, the facility shares its ecological research findings and conducts field studies that support conservation and habitat management. These resources can be integrated into customized lectures or discussion-based programs for MICE groups seeking meaningful, sustainability-focused content.
